These front entrance ideas will brighten up your front door and porch this summer. Some of the front entrance ideas I have for my next house include a porch big enough for at least a couple of chairs, or a lovely porch swing for a friend and I to sip tea or coffee from.

Front porches are the first impression that our homes display. They are a big part of any home’s overall curb appeal, changes to just one element of our porch, can make a significant improvement. Ask any realtor!

Dramatic and Lovely Doors

A new door can transform your entire entrance area. As the gateway into our home, the front door is very important to our complete look. A variety of beautiful styles offer tons of options for all budgets.

Iron and glass doors containing elegant and intricate designs are easily found in newly constructed homes, designer showrooms and home improvement stores. Solid wood, iron, steel and fiberglass doors are popular choices for homeowners.

Of course, your personal preferences, security, privacy needs and maintenance requirements will all factor into your final front door selection. Many search for a door that is compatible with the overall exterior design style of their home.

Beautiful hardware on the door can make its own statement! Traditional, elegant, vintage and contemporary styles of door knobs, handles and door knockers can alter the look of a door considerably.

Changing the color of these doors, or sprucing up the hardware can freshen up your front porch without busting your budget. Bold shades of paint or stain or subdued, neutral colors can create an awesome focal point at your home’s entryway. Gel-stains are popular now and can even make a fiberglass door look pricey.

Doors don’t have to be made of wood to look like they are. You can add a kick-plate at the bottom of the door that coordinates with the other hardware too. Use your imagination and bring your front entrance ideas to life!

Keep in mind the amount of natural sunlight, your porch area formula for choosing your color. A north-facing shaded porch may appear even darker if the door color or house color are dark.

Sometimes, trial and error bring the best results. If you change your mind several times but end up with a color you love different from your original color it is okay!

Choosing a trim color for your door is also a way to update your porch. Even just giving a fresh coat of the existing trim color can make the door “pop” and make it look new again. It’s always best to update the trim when you update a door, if it hasn’t been done recently. This will add even more emphasis to a fabulous front door. Details matter here!

Door Décor — Welcoming Wreaths and Mats

To me, a front door is not complete without a wreath, there are so many possibilities! I can’t actually recall the beginning of my wreath-making addiction.

I seem to have collected many wire cutters for this purpose as well. It’s so frustrating when you are ready to create and scissors just won’t do!

Who else can relate? Are there favorite crafting tools you can never seem to find when you need them?

I adore wreaths with beautiful flowers! Coordinating flowers with the holidays, can be a fun challenge and complement a variety of your front entrance ideas.

Summer sunflowers contrasted with deep purples really bring creativity and interest to the door. Contrast flower colors to the paint or stain on the door for a striking pop of color.

When carefully stored, they can easily be changed out for a completely different front door vibe. Why not create and display different wreaths for every month of the year?

Wreaths can match your design style, favorite sports teams, your initials, favorite hobbies and even your house number. They can even take the shape of an object for a fun or whimsical shape. I’ve seen adorable wreaths shaped like pumpkins, snowmen, flowers, baseballs, bunnies, bouquets, fruit, words, hearts and flags.

There are even wreaths customized to display your occupation. I’ve seen them decorated with items personalized to professions such as teaching, fire fighting, serving in the military and photography.

Wreaths showing the tools artists or carpenters use are also creative possibilities. Other options include using the traditional wreath circle shape but, adding items to it meaningful to you.

They can serve as a way to show your creativity, personality and your favorite collections. It’s just another way to creatively welcome your guests and bring a smile to their faces.

Most of us have a welcome mat. Why not a “Welcome Wreath”? Do you have a favorite, unique wreath or other item included in your own front entrance ideas and décor?

Speaking of welcome mats, this might be the easiest and cheapest way to quickly change the look of your front porch! It seems like these have become more beautiful In recent years.

You might prefer the welcome mats that display the actual word “welcome.” Or you could choose one with your initials, last name a quote or a favorite graphic.

There are funny ones, themed ones and also some that reference your pets. These serve as part of the welcome message to your guests. And also, to offer a place to wipe their shoes, boots or paws, before entering your home. Use them to share a bit about your personality.
