Making Your Home Cozy with Snug Spaces

Woohoo!!! School is officially out, and I am clearly so excited! Now I finally have time to get started on the growing list of projects and ideas I have to make my home cozy.
Driving home on a late in May Friday afternoon, I noticed storm clouds to the north.Two things I then longed for: a chocolate-banana smoothie and a very long nap. A slumber during the storm that was fast-approaching. It was one of the best smoothie-induced naps EVER! What a comfy and cozy start to the summer freedom, so familiar to and long awaited by all teachers.
This “comfy and cozy” I refer to is what I continuously strive to create for others. I decorate with creativity and coziness in mind, so that those I share a space with, at home or work, are welcomed and feel like they belong there. While some people seem to be natural at hosting, I am not. I am not an amazing hostess.
I need recipes to plan any meals, haven’t mastered the art of time management when cooking multiple items, and don’t even remember to refill beverages of guests. I have had awesome role models for how to be a wonderful hostess. My mom, Grandma, and mothers-in-law, have always been awesome at this. I just didn’t pick it up I guess. I am working on it though!
But, comfy spots to sit in and cozy décor, now THAT I can do! And indeed, I love to do this! For me, it’s all about keeping those in these spaces comfortable. Life is certainly too short to be uncomfortable! So, this is my way to show hospitality — by “snuggin up my spaces.” Creating comfort includes not just furniture and home décor, but so much more! It’s also, how we treat others in that space. And it’s little things such as taking an interest in and caring for the people in that space, being polite and showing them that you are glad they are there.

It’s about connecting, inspiring, as well as encouraging and caring. It is about creating a calming and comforting atmosphere for all. Often, we think of this as being limited to our homes. But, creating cozy in other places is also important (and can be so fun!). It doesn’t have to be expensive, exhausting or overly complicated. It really shouldn’t be, because it is for our comfort and cozy as well.

With just a little creativity, we can transform a room, and also the way it makes us feel. Too often, we become discouraged and feel defeated in our decorating efforts. Mistakenly, we start to believe that we do not have the resources, time or expertise to make a comfy and beautiful space. However, we simply need to just consider all of our options.
Once we do this, we have endless possibilities to create spaces for ourselves and others, that are welcoming, inviting, and comforting. These are places we can retreat to when we want to get away from the busy, stressful, and sometimes chaotic world. We need these snug and cozy spaces to lift our spirits, welcome others, motivate and encourage ourselves and those in our lives. The rewards are well worth it. Snug up your space starting now!
